"Clerks" as Critical Officials in Government and Commerce - (aka "Keeper of Public Trust")

The Government Official responsible for ensuring documents are complete and properly verfied is called a "Clerk" aka "The Keeper of Public Trust" per Monterey County's own website

While some may think of the term "clerk" as referring to a "secretary" or someone with a "menial task", in the game of Government and Commerce, the Clerk should be thought of more like the Quality Control Referee. The Clerk is the person who weighs in Fighters before a fight to assure they meet weight or they may be the Referee who weighs footballs and checks pressure to make sure no funny business is going on. A County Clerk is such an important job it's an Elected Postion wth reporting only to the public like a DA, Sherrif, Auditor and Treasurer (as seen in organization chart below)

SEI 700 Forms for Supervisor are supposed to be filed with THREE clerks.

The Clerk of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors ( a direct report to the Board's Adminstrative Office)
The Clerk of Monterey County ( an elected official like the Controller, DA, Sheriff and Treasure-Tax Collector)
The Clerk of the FPPC (Fair Poltiical Practices Committee) < the state >

FPPC Clerk

The FPPC has Chief Adminstrative officer who is responsible for SEI document filing. The head of that group right now is Jue Wang.

Assistant Chief of Administration from 2014-2024 where she managed the Budget, Accounting, Business Services, Personnel, and Statements of Economic Interests (SEI) Units
