Monterey County Supervisor Glenn Church and Team under the Microscope --

It went way beyond a little bad a long time ago...

A democratic republic is one in which equal votes from all qualified people are used to elect a political representative who then has authority to engage in group policy making at their own whim. It can be an extremely powerful and efficient system, but it is also extremely precarious if not tended to like a raging bonfire that is always but one ember away from ravishing the landscape around it if someone gets elected while obfuscating material facts from others.
If a person is able to get elected who has a lot of personal interests that are off the radar, it can be very difficult to keep such a person in check after the election given "the power given up to the elected person" for collective representation.
The "fox in the hen house" is a parable about a predator using disguise to gain unlimited access to prey in a way that can be extremely damaging until the disguise is recognized OR all the prey are dead. Is this a story of that or something else? You be the judge...
Glenn Church is currently one of five county Supervisors of Monterey County California's responsible for managing $1.8 BILLION budget and 5000 employees. Monterey County has a very affluent area along the coast and it is a large Agricultural County -- creating a lot of economic diversity in a small area and a need for migrant labor. Such conditions are ripe for human exploitation and old family control as was found in the southeastern United States prior to the Civil War. Such conditions are not typically conducive to truly inclusive community building, although those born into such systems struggle to see that given it's all they know
When Glenn Church ran for County Supervisor in 2021 he was 61 years old and he "seemed like" a relatively unknown person to those not familiar with north county (back county) history. Oddly, not one of 7 or so county newspapers seemed to do a full expose on him for his candidacy announcement or during his run up to the first election. Given his father (Levi) Warren Church was a Commercial Dynamo and Supervisor for the county for 12 years, the father of the County park system, an author, a head of dozens of local boards -- and given these small papers might combine to employ over 75 people who may consume significant ad revenue from the County which most don't think about, does it seem odd there was not one that ran a full candidate profile to you? Wouldn't they want to make sure that the new guy from North County might not upset their ad revenue? Wouldn't they want to share with others information about a new person running for office to ensure he wasn't a fox? Church did however get a small 1.5 page spread from a small paper from the county next door. Also a bit odd, yes?
For those who found his campaign website, Church ran on a "humble small business man ticket" -- his website touted his local family Christmas tree farm, suggestion of a working class upbringing - while including references to a landscape and soils business that could not be verified online. The assumption would have been he was just a country guy without technology support -- when that was not at all.
On his website Church bragged of knocking on 10,000 doors, indirectly suggesting that was the only we he might have been able to outreach. Or did he do that because it was the safest way to ensure people didn't get together and share all the stories about he and his dad that may have painted a far different picture?
As part of his campaign website that said all the right things (albiet with some subtle conflicts in retrospect), he did disclose his father had been supervisor from 1964 to 1976 and he highlighted his father's work to buy and open county parks in the area. And any who checked out the intro paragraph to his dad's obituary in 2017 would have seem a similar presentation of humility.
However, any who read into that obituary and unwound some of the confusing timeline references may have summarized it like this...
(Levi) Warren Church was born in 1929. From young age he excelled in athletics, education and commerce. He flipped his property for 100% profit when he was 18 while simultaneously managing over 200 bee colonies. Gifted in commerce he was. He then was shipped off to the Korean War where he earned metals and commendations for superior service. A warrior he became. Upon returning, he got married to a woman with a child from another, and by 1959 he had started Christmas tree farming, presumably on family land dating back a few generations and he had given birth to his only child, Glenn. At age 36 he was elected for his first of 3 terms as Monterey County Supervisor of North County -- and during that time he also seemed to start a nursery business, and teach school. Sometime starting in his 30's or after, he also grew his Christmas tree business into a cross country network with labor intensive farms in Monterey and Eldorado County California, Minnesota and Massachusetts. It's unclear how he managed such labor intenstive businesses across 3000 miles without cell phones or low coast air travel. A national business man engaged in complex, labor intensive farming he also became. By 47 he had served as county Supervisor for 12 years, Glenn was around 16 years old and Levi split from his second wife and he eventually found a third (or more). By the time of his passing Levi had served on 47 boards with over 150 years of combined service, engaged in national commerce in ways difficult to fathom, potentially enjoyed a miltiary network from the Korean war and seemingly built up a commercial real estate portfolio or may have managed one that had been passed down to him that was otherwise not mentioned at all.
You - "With our free, independent local press checking on our Politicians and their backgrounds, we can trust the system right?"
Me - "Much of our local press is controlled by VCs in New York and beyond. And while it seems clear there are some local employees, when one of those is the third wife of Politician Glenn Church, an individual who can't seem to accurately complete SEI 700 filings -- which is a document the local press should have scrutinized on our behalf -- No, we can not trust any aspect of the system at this time".
You - "Who is Glenn Church and what's wrong with him and them ?"
Me - "This story may blow your mind, and possibly theirs and many others too"
Glenn Church
District 2 Supervisor- Monterey County CA
Glenn ran on "small businessman" ticket while omitting detailed reference to an impressive consulting repetuation where he seems to have worked extensively with S &P 500 Companys, Stanford, and the State of CA. His reason for not exposing that prior commercial success --- while actually burying the website that would have exposed it -- is unclear, but we can speculate.
Churh self identifies as Validictorian of his Hartnell Junior College class and indicated he want on to UC Santa Cruze for more education -- although it seems now that may have been suggestive writng that could have misled others. Glenn also self-identifies as an Author.
Glenn is someone who should have been able provide clarity about himself, his businesses and his assests on on SEI700 forms with ease.
Katharyn McKenzie (Nichols / Church)
Professional Journalist / Writer / Author
Kathryn is Glenns current wife as of around 2017.
Kathryn and Glenn seem to have started buying spaces in an Antitque Mall together while Glenn was still with his prior wife or possibly just after a separation. She seems to be Glenns third wife.
Kathryn has been contributing to various Main Stream News and Magazines for decades, although oddly, like Glenn she took her own professional website offline in the mid 2010's for reasons unclear.
Kathryn's Muckrake profile indicates she is Actvie in the Monterey Bay area and in other states including South Carolina.
Kathryn is someone who should have been able to help Glenn with written clarity on SEI 700 forms with ease.
Marilyn Vierra
Glenn's Chief of Staff
Vierra went to a Monterey County area private highschool that some may refer to as an "elite" highschool (or expensive).
Vierra appears to have been a mother and teacher for decades. Her own bio indicates she moved to Hawaii and had/raised five children.
Time in Monterey Bay and Hawaii suggests potential ties to the Dole / Del Monte families or other farming families but that's speculative.
Vierra's teaching seems to have included remedial reading and writing for some portion of the time.
Vierra is someone who should have been able to help Glenn with written clarity on SEI 700 forms with ease.
While labeling them as "trust funders" for life may or may not be proper, identifying them as beneficiaries of parental land holdings seems very accurate based on their own biographies, land records, and other doucmetnation found online.
The reason this is being mentioned is because the information presented in this website and others seems to show a total disconnect from responsibile presenation of facts and communication with constituents and others. It seems sometimes a gifted upbringing can lead to those type of communication challenges and it's just presented as one possible explanation for the various odd behaviors, disclosure failures, and emails that will be presented.
NOTE: her personal website is avail via the wayback machine. more on that later.
